Shocking Recall: Hatch Baby Recalls 919K Power Adapters for Rest 1st Gen Sound Machines

Hatch Baby Recalls 919,000 Power Adapters on Rest 1st Generation Sound Machines Over Shock Hazard

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a massive recall of power adapters for the Hatch Baby Rest 1st Generation sound machines due to a potential shock hazard. The recall affects an estimated 919,000 power adapters sold in the United States and an additional 16,819 units sold in Canada. The affected power adapters were manufactured in China and imported by Hatch Baby Inc., a digital parenting company based in Menlo Park, California.

According to the CPSC, the recall was initiated after Hatch Baby received numerous reports of the power adapters breaking or detaching, exposing the metal prongs inside and posing a risk of electric shock. While no injuries have been reported to date, the company is urging consumers to immediately stop using the affected power adapters and contact Hatch Baby for a free replacement.

The Hatch Baby Rest 1st Generation sound machine is a popular nursery device that combines a night light, sound machine, and time-to-rise alert in one compact unit. The affected power adapters were sold as a bundle with the sound machine and were also available for purchase separately. They were sold online at various retailers, including Amazon, Target, and buybuy BABY, from September 2016 through February 2021 for about $60.

Consumers who purchased the Hatch Baby Rest 1st Generation sound machine are advised to check the power adapter for the model number HA-PA-1000 located on the side of the unit. If the model number matches the recalled adapters, consumers should immediately stop using the power adapter and contact Hatch Baby for a free replacement. The company can be reached toll-free at 844-974-1228 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. PT Monday through Friday or online at www.hatchbaby.com.

In order to mitigate the risk of electric shock, Hatch Baby is offering a free replacement kit that includes a redesigned power adapter with improved safety features. Consumers are advised to install the replacement power adapter as soon as possible to ensure the safe operation of their Hatch Baby Rest 1st Generation sound machine.

As always, the CPSC advises consumers to stay informed about product recalls and to report any incidents or potential safety hazards to the agency. By remaining vigilant and proactive in addressing safety concerns, consumers can help protect themselves and their families from potential harm.
